Lucerne business for Lucerne residents

The heart of the company are the Lucerne shops. They are run by the brothers Alex and Matthias Imgrüth in the 6th generation together with almost 100 employees. The recipe that has guaranteed success for 190 years? "We run a Lucerne shop for Lucerne residents.

We know our customers' tastes very well and when we shop in Milan and Düsseldorf we have a precise idea of what is in demand in central Switzerland," say the company bosses. The collection is large, sometimes fashionably extravagant, sometimes sporty, sometimes classic and timeless, and always reasonably priced.

The huge selection of models and brands is always impressive. Not only the fashionable flair and the sense for new trends are appreciated, but also the quality and service. Matthias Imgrüth: "We rely on leather, on good footbeds and consciously set ourselves apart from cheap Asian goods. And: We value expert advice in all our stores. The effort is worth it: the people of Lucerne have remained very loyal to us over all these years and we would like to thank them for that."

Looking back with pride

At the beginning of the story was Mathias Jakob Imgrüth (1792-1879). Exactly 190 years ago, he bought the house at Weggisgasse 4 in Lucerne and set up a shoemaker's workshop and shop there. It was the first shop in the city to offer ready-made shoes from stock. Mathias Jakob Imgrüth had lived in his dream city of Paris for ten years and developed the intuition that characterizes a true master shoemaker. His shoes were in demand, and because talent was accompanied by commercial knowledge and thrift, nothing stood in the way of him opening his own shop.

The fact that the beginning was difficult here too can be read in the family chronicle: "When the young master shoemaker and his energetic, enterprising wife Ursula opened their own business in 1830, the struggle for survival of an old Lucerne family began. During the day they worked in the workshop and shop, in the evenings they worked overtime by candlelight and oil until late at night..." Generation after generation followed. In 1987, Alex and Matthias Imgrüth took over the company from their mother Nina, who had run the company with tight reins and great skill after the early death of Max Josef Imgrüth.

New paths: "Nina" and "Junior"

Because standing still means falling behind, every Imgrüth generation has looked for opportunities for expansion. Today's bosses see it no differently: In addition to the classic specialist shops with a large selection, other specialist shops have been added: "Nina" is the first port of call for women who are looking for shoes that are comfortable to wear but still fashionable. These comfortable shoe shops already exist in Lucerne and Bern. "Junior" (in Lucerne) is a children's shoe shop that focuses on quality and comfort as well as fashion and trends. These attributes are particularly important for young customers in their growth years. Respected brands can be found in all Imgrüth shops: Timberland, Peter Kaiser, Gabor, Tommy Hilfiger, Paul Green, UGG, Voile Blanche, Santoni, K&S, Mephisto, Brunate and others.
Alex and Matthias Imgrüth on the big anniversary: "We are proud that the oldest business in Lucerne is still family-owned. We are looking forward to the next 195 years together with our loyal customers and our first-class employees."
